DAYTON, OH. – Custom Cantab, a million dollar winner and the only harness racing mare in a field of talented male trotters, captured the first open class event of the recently started Hollywood Dayton meet on Thursday afternoon.
Sent off as the second choice in the $15,000 Open Trot, the five-year-old daughter of Mr Cantab was forwardly placed by driver Josh Sutton throughout the mile, which featured matching :57 halves. The Chris Beaver trainee cruised past the finish line in 1:54 to garner her first triumph in 2020 in just her fourth start back after a ten month layoff.
Workinitonbroadway (Brett Miller) finished second in the featured mile, while longshot Cool Clifford (Tyler Smith) raced admirably to garner the show dough. The winner paid $7.20, the exacta kicked back $41 and a correct 50-cent trifecta was worth $166.
Custom Cantab now sports 19 career victories and earnings of $1,024,943. She is owned by her trainer Chris Beaver in partnership with Donald Robinson and RBH Ventures Inc.
Racing resumes at Hollywood Dayton on Friday and Saturday nights with 6:15 post times.
