Moving first-over at the half mile marker, Mississippi Storm was able to grind it out against the harness racing favorite Stormy Kromer in winning the $39,000 Open Handicap Trot Friday evening (May 13) at Yonkers Raceway.
It was Street Gossip (Jason Bartlett) first on the lead in the 10th race feature, but that lead was short lived as driver Daniel Dube left the pocket and took command by the first quarter in the heavy fog in :27.4.
To the half mile in :57 was when Jordan Stratton came first-over with Mississippi Storm and started to work their way towards the leaders of the pack. By the three-quarters in 1:25.2, Mississippi Storm was within a half length of collaring Stormy Kromer.
Coming off the final turn and battling down the stretch, Mississippi Storm finally wore down Stormy Kromer before the wire to win by a half length in 1:53.4 Street Gossip was third.
