Western Terror mare Moments of Joy won the harness racing $25,000 Fillies and Mares Open at Dover Downs on New Year’s night (Wednesday).
Moments of Joy, left alertly from post five and parked race favorite Reclamation, who starting from post 8, to the quarter. The fractions were 26.2 – 54.1 – 1:22.1 – 1:51 on a chilly night.
Reclamation cut the mile and was joined by Scuola Hanover, who raced first up past the half and pressured the leader to a 28 flat, third quarter.
Valuable Art took her cue as driver Russell Foster sent her three wide at the three-quarter pole.
But Moments of Joy and driver Victor Kirby, proved to be the pocket rocket, as they maneuvered past Reclamation in the deep stretch and earning them a lifetime mark of 1:51 flat. They won by a neck.
Moments of Joy is owned and trained by Bryan Truitt of Selbyville, Delaware. They were the second choice in the wagering.
Reclamation finished second as the favorite, and was driven by Tim Tetrick for trainer Ron Burke.
Delishka N sat the rail and finished 3rd. She was driven by Allan Davis for trainer Wayne Givens.
Driver Tim Tetrick celebrated the New Year in spectacular fashion. Tetrick finished the night with six wins and two second place finishes out of 10 drives.
