Monticello, NY— The overwhelming 1-5 favorite Jones Z Tam (Beckhams Z Tam) claimed harness racing victory in the $5,100 featured harness racing pace on Thursday (Aug. 3) at Monticello Raceway.
Jones Z Tam took the early lead from the middle of the track, with Blazing Black on the inside. On the first turn, Blazing Black and Lizziana broke stride, leaving the field scattered by the first quarter in :29:3.
Jones Z Tam was leading the way by a length with Easy Check in the two hole and Koepka two lengths back at the half mile in :59:1.
Jones Z Tam was on top by three lengths, Easy Check in second, and Koepka third coming around the final turn.
Jones Z Tam continued to extend his lead to five and three-quarter lengths at the finish wire in 1:57.2. Easy Check, the longest shot on the board at 88-1, came in second, Hey Junior was third.

Jones Z Tam is trained by Nicholas Devita. Jim Taggart was the driver. The three-year-old gelding is owned by Ray Cohen, Robert Stasio and the Devita Racing Stable. He paid $2.50 to win.
