HARRINGTON, DE – Four $20,000 divisions of harness racing trotters capped the week of 1st leg elimination events for Delaware Standardbred Breeders Fund (DSBF) 2-year-olds Wednesday at Harrington Raceway. It was also a special milestone day for driver Montrell Teague.
George Teague and David Collins’ Kodack Black (Kodak Lindy) and driver Montrell Teague prevailed in the first DSBF split in 2:00.4 over Reddy Fox and Youngbuck. The gelding was under confident first-over handling and surged to the lead near the three-quarters and opened up easily for his first career win. He paid just $2.20 to win as the overwhelming race favorite.
KODACK BLACK REPLAY
Driver Montrell Teague then notched his 2,000th career win aboard his own Country Courtesy ($2.20), who was an open length winner in 1:58. A large crowd of friends and family joined the popular son of Hall of Fame trainer George Teague Jr. in the winner’s circle.
Perfect Twenty (Yankee Royalty) and driver Victor Kirby won with a similar trip in the 2nd division for owner Robert Allison Jr., in 2:02.2. After sitting third along the rail much of the mile, Kirby pulled the gelding on the backstretch where he responded and quickly pressed the leader before drawing away in the stretch over I Got It Made and Hespookshescores. Trained by Cliff Green, it was his first career win and he paid $4.40 to win.
PERFECT TWENTY REPLAY
Lct Stable’s Lady Brass (CR Commando) and driver Pat Berry won the first filly division in 2:02.3 over Royal Flirt and Missdaburg. Another Green trainee, it was the 1st career win for Lady Brass who paid $6.40 to win.
LADY BRASS REPLAY
Jeff Clark’s She Is Strong (Anders Bluestone) and driver Art Stafford Jr.) won the final DSBF division on the card, the filly marched to the lead with ease from post two and never relented in a blowout win over Lilmisswontbewrong and Fairlee in 2:01.2. It was her first career start and is trained by her driver. She paid $3.00 to win.
SHE IS STRONG REPLAY
In the $15,000 overnight feature, Andrew Glassmeyer’s Embrace The Grind ($26.60, Mike Cole) notched his 4th win of the year over Ginger Tree Skyr and Quiksilvr Bluechip in 1:54, the fastest trotting mile of the meet.
Live racing will continue on a Monday through Wednesday schedule through October 19.
