Mufasa As crowned king in Monticello feature

Monticello, NY— Mufasa As (Lionhunter, Thomas Merton) won the $6,500 harness racing Open trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (Jan. 10).

Chip Chip Conway (Jim Taggart Jr) took the early lead, followed by Mufasa As in second and Nancy Bar (Michael Merton) in third. They passed the first quarter mile in :29.4, the half mile in 1:00, and the three-quarter mile in 1:30.1 with these three in the same positions.

As they turned for home, Mufasa As moved to challenge Chip Chip Conway from the outside. Mufasa As crossed the wire first in 2:00.

Chip Chip Conway followed in second and Nancy Bar finished in third.

MUFASA AS REPLAY

Mufasa As is an 8-year-old gelding owned and trained by Mark Ford. He paid $13.00 to win.

Thomas Merton drove two winners on the card.
