Batavia, NY — The New York Sire Stakes doubled up at Batavia Downs on Saturday (Aug. 23) night as 3-year-old trotters of both genders lined up for $236,700 in total purses.

The fillies went one harness racing division for $121,800 and My Debt Collector (Chapter Seven-Magic Presto) captured her fifth NYSS win of the year.

Calculus Risk (Jeff Gregory) got to the front quickly ahead of Chapvious (Jason Bartlett) and seated My Debt Collector (Tyler Buter) third as they rolled to the quarter in :28.1. Positions remained unchanged to the half, but as they headed towards three-quarters, Buter tipped My Debt Collector and started the trek towards the leader. After the group trotted by three-quarters in 1:27.1, Calculus Risk still had a two length advantage as My Debt Collector seemed to stall in the turn. But when they entered the lane, Buter gave My Debt Collector her head and she methodically made up ground on Calculus Risk and then pulled ahead by one-half length at the light in 1:56.3.

The seventh win of the year for My Debt Collector ($4.20) pushed her 2025 earnings to $344,722 for owners Dave Mc Duffee, Melvin Hartman and Little E. Nifty Norman trains the winner.

MY DEBT COLLECTOR REPLAY

Then the colts and geldings went to post in two divisions and in the $56,900 group, Variegated (Chapter Seven-White Cheetah) simply overpowered the competition.

Jason Bartlett took no prisoners with Variegated and led the entire race by a gapped margin. After stepping off fractions of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:27.3, Bartlett let Variegated go and he pulled away by 2-½ lengths in the last turn and then bolted home under wraps by 3-¾ lengths in 1:56.3 to remain undefeated in the NYSS this year.

VARIEGATED REPLAY

The fourth win of 2025 for Variegated ($2.30) and it pushed him over the quarter-million dollar mark, now boasting $251,525 in earnings this year for owner S R F Stable and trainer Marcus Melander.

Then in the $58,000 split, Fadeaway Hanover (Chapter Seven-Coffeecake Hanover) went gate to wire for his seventh win of the year.

Jim Morrill Jr. got Fadeaway Hanover past Banksy Monkey (Jeff Gregory) and to the front at the quarter in :29.2. He then got to the half in a soft :59 before an outer flow came, led by Seven Layer (Niko Karna) who was followed by Karinchak (Mark Macdonald) and they passed three-quarters in 1:28.3. After rounding the turn and straightening for home, Fadeaway Hanover was still in command, but Karinchak had tipped widest of all and made a late lunge at the leader, but came up just shy as Fadeaway Hanover hung on to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:57.4.

It was the seventh win of the year for the heavily favored Fadeaway Hanover ($3.70) who is owned by Benoit Baillargeon, Santo Vena and Nunzio Vena and trained by Sara Baillargeon.

Jason Bartlett and Jim Morrill Jr. both scored hat tricks in the bike on Saturday.
