My Girl EJ (Sweet Lou) stormed to a mild upset in the $700,000 Breeders Crown 2-year-old filly pace at Harrah’s Hoosier Park Friday (Oct. 27), stopping the clock in a new stakes and track record of 1:49.2.
The win gave harness racing driver Dexter Dunn his 7th winner of the night and saw trainer Ron Burke grab the first three money slots as the second and third place finishers, Pass Line and Camerican are both conditioned by Burke.
The heavy favorite, undefeated Geocentric (Tim Tetrick) grabbed the lead going to the :27 first quarter and paced through panels of :54 and :1:22.2 before being collared by My Girl EJ in the stretch. Geocentric finished seventh.
My Girl EJ pushed her career earnings to $599;097 and now has four wins, five seconds, and one third in 11 starts for owners Burke Racing, Weaver Bruscemi, Elizabeth Novak, and Howard Taylor. My Girl EJ paid $9.40 to win.
āItās wonderful,ā Burke stressed āThese three fillies are out of our mares and the first two are by our stallions, so it is really special. Ā We take pride in this, itās a big deal to us.ā
