Mystical Rock got a masterful steer by Tim Tetrick to win the $74,000 American National for freshman colts and geldings on Saturday night, Nov. 7 at at the harness racing meeting at Balmoral Park in Crete, IL.
The son of Rockin Image was clocked in an effortless 1:52.1 as the 1-5 public's choice.
Mystical Rock was harnessed by Erv Miller for owners Anthony Lomardi of Morris, IL and the Mystical Marker Farm of Dwyer, IN.
After Dr Drake Ramoray (Yannick Gingras) led the field to a :27.1 opening panel, New Talent (John Campbell) took over, leading the field to a :54.4 half and 1:24.2 three-quarter clocking.
At that point Tetrick moved his charge and brushed by his rival in the lane to prevail for his fourth career victory in 11 starts.
"I got to sit a long time and this colt just did his job," Tetrick said.
"It was a strong effort by this colt and I think they're going to shut him down until next year now."
Mystical Rock is a homebred son out of the Art Major broodmare Majorencounter, and now has $176,152 in his lifetime bank account.
