Yonkers, NY— Harness racing amateur driver Alan Schwartz won the $15,000 North American Amateur Drivers Association Summer Final with Raceace (Yankee Glide) at Yonkers Raceway tonight (Aug. 4) with a gate to wire triumph in 1:58 nosing out Judge Ken who was driven by Scott Keppler.
Schwartz started from the pole position and went immediately to the lead with Raceace and they showedĀ the way by the quarter in :28.2 with Judge Ken tight on his back. They were one-two by the half in :57.4 and the order remained the same up the backside.
When they neared the three quarters in 1:27.4 they were side by side and remained that way when they turned for home. As they cleared the final turn and headed for paydirt Judge Ken got his head in front, but Raceace battled back, and they were side by side at the finish.
“It was so close that Scott and I asked who won it?” Schwartz related. “But needless to say, I was the happy one when the judges posted my number first.”
With a late rally Jekyll N Hyde (Nicole Dicostanzo) got up for the show dough.
The winner of the non-wagering race, Raceace, is owned and trained by his driver.
