Monticello, NY--Jake Stillwell and Soul Train cut speedy fractions, but they were overtaken in the deep stretch by Crews Hilltopper (Break The Bank K) and driver Joe Lee in the $7,500 North America Amateur Drivers Association (NAADA) harness racing trot today (Sept. 21) at Monticello Raceway. At the wire Lee’s charge was 1-3/4 lengths better than Stillwell’s in the 1:59.2 trotted mile.
Sent off as the odds-on favorite, Crews Hilltopper paid $3.40 for the win.
When the starter turnedĀ the fieldĀ loose Stillwell sent Soul Train to the lead and they were all alone at the quarter in :28 seconds. From there Stillwell kept the pedal to the metal and they zipped by the half in :58.
Up the backside Lee moved Crews Hilltopper out to challenge and they rushed up to challenge the leader, but they were still two lengths from the top.
The top two rounded the final turn side by side but Crews Hilltopper was the strong horse and he eased away to a 1-3/4 length triumph. Soul Train was second best with 70-1 shot Racintowardadream (Paul Minore) third.
