The fourth of five legs of the Buckeye Stallion Series for 2-year-old colt harness racing trotters was held at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Friday (September 3).
Ultra consistent Rose Run Xalted has hit the board in 9 of 10 starts,Ā including a win in the BSS at Urbana on August 10. In the first division of $17,500 Buckeye Stallion Series action Friday, driver Don Irvine, Jr. left out of the two hole with Rose Run Xalted and led gate to wire through fractions of :27.3, :57.4 and 1:27.4. The duo won by a nose in a new lifetime best of 1:58.3 over Mo Bay (Chris Lems) and Phantom Tom (Kayne Kauffman). Rosy Weaver co-owns and trains the Triumphant Caviar – TamkeaĀ Seelster gelding with Joseph Kramp. Rose Run Xalted now has $33,145 earned on the year. The winner paid $7.80 to win.
ROSE RUN XALTED REPLAY
The second division was won by All Gas No Brakes and Trevor Smith, also by a nose, in 1:58.4. The Todd Luther trainee got away fourth from the five hole while Pine Rocket (Chris Page) set the early tempo, hitting the quarter in :29.2 and half in :59.1. After being parked since the word go, Doo Wop Kid (Hugh Beatty) took the lead before the 1:28.3 three-quarters. All Gas No Brakes had already gone three-wide and just got up over Striking Count (Dan Noble); Doo Wop Kid was third. All Gas No Brakes (Uncle Peter – Norse Comer) is owned by Black Magic Racing and paid $19.80 to win.
ALL GAS NO BRAKES REPLAY
The third and last division was won by Frosty Trouble in 2:00.1. Tyler Smith left for the lead with the Long Tom gelding to a :29.3 opening quarter. They were briefly in the two hole but had already pulled to go around A Handsome Face (Irvine) when that pair made a break up top. Frosty Trouble then led through a 1:01.3 half and 1:30.3 three-quarters before winning by two lengths over New Westerville (Brett Miller) and Andoverthecaddy (Josh Sutton). Trained by Steve Carter and owned by Tammy Carter, Jay Mossbarger, Adam Friedland and Ryan Holton, Frosty Trouble now has three wins and two seconds in his last five starts. The race favorite paid $2.80 to win.
FROSTY TROUBLE REPLAY
Racing continues at Eldorado Scioto Downs on Saturday (September 4) with a 6:15 p.m. first post. On tap are the four $85,000 Ohio Sires Stakes Veterans Championships, carded as races 7 (mare pace), 8 (horses & geldings trot), 10 (mare trot) and 11 (horses & geldings pace). There will then be a special Labor Day race card with the normal 6:15 p.m. post in lieu of a card on Tuesday, September 7.
