New marks for two-year-olds in $135,000 ISS

ANDERSON, Ind.—August 13, 2024—A new week of harness racing at Harrah’s Hoosier Park kicked-off with round three of Indiana Sire Stakes for rookie trotting fillies highlighting the 13-race card on Tuesday (Aug. 13).

A pair of $67,500 divisions saw Martz Seven (Swan For All-La Mirada) and Miracle Maven (Don’t Let’em-Bad Babysitter) each deliver victories with career best efforts.

Sent off as the 4-5 favorite in the first division, Martz Seven teamed up with regular pilot Mike Peterson from post four in the field of eight. The Walter Haynes Jr. trainee left alertly from the gate, quickly crossing over to grab command at the quarter pole in :28.4. Fifty To Win (driven by Ricky Macomber Jr.) continued her leave attempt first-over to grab command on the backstretch from Martz Seven before leading the fillies to the half in :58.4. Fifty To Win guided the field to three-quarters in 1:28.2 while Martz Seven stalked intently from the pocket.

Turning for home, Peterson angled Martz Seven off of the Macomber helmet before she quickly pulled along side Fifty To Win, putting her nose in front with an eighth of a mile to go. Sprinting home in :27, Martz Seven began to edge clear late in the lane, motoring home 1-1/2 lengths clear on the wire in 1:55.4 over Fifty To Win. Sweetasmoni (Kyle Wilfong) finished in the show position.

MARTZ SEVEN REPLAY

Yet to miss the board in her young career, Martz Seven is now a two-time winner through six outings. The $9,500 yearling purchase at the 2023 Hoosier Classic sports a career bankroll of $75,067 for owners Black And White Stable and Stephen Stoll. She was bred by Martz Creek Farm and Roman Stoll.

Henry Graber Jr. trainees went one-two in the second and fastest division, with Miracle Maven and John De Long cruising past the favored Better Tak’em (Jordan Ross) in the stretch to earn the victory.

Leaving from the rail, De Long settled Miracle Maven in third early while Ponda Fashion (Kyle Wilfong) cleared from the far outside post eight to take command at the quarter in a hot :27.1. Ponda Fashion cruised to the half in :56.1 with the Graber trainees in tow, Better Tak’em in the pocket and Miracle Maven sitting third. The lead trio trotted well clear of the remainder of the field on the final turn, with Ponda Fashion speeding to three-quarters in 1:25.3.

At the top of the stretch, Ponda Fashion came under a two-pronged attack with Better Tak’em to her outside and Miracle Maven skimming the pylons to her inside. Better Tak’em held secured a short-lived lead midway through the lane before Miracle Maven geared up a :27.2 rally up the rail to surge clear by 3-1/4 lengths over her stablemate in 1:53.3. Swan Jewel (Trace Tetrick) rallied for the third spot. Miracle Maven $8.00 to win at the betting windows.

MIRACLE MAVEN REPLAY

The 1:53.3 clocking took over three seconds off of her previous mark of 1:57 as Miracle Maven claimed her third victory in five career outings. Owned by Eleven Star Stables, Frank Baldachino, Beasty LLC and Hillside Stables, Miracle Maven now boasts a career bankroll of $67,395. Noah Wickey bred the filly who was an $8,500 yearling purchase at the 2023 Michiana Classic Yearling Sale.

The 1:53.3 clocking was just two-fifths of a second off of the 1:53.1 track record for two-year-old trotting fillies established by R Melina in the 2023 Kentuckiana Stallion Management Stakes last September.

Racing continues at Harrah’s Hoosier Park on Wednesday, Aug. 14 with a 13-race card slated to begin at 6:15 p.m. Two divisions of Indiana Sire Stakes for the two-year-old pacing fillies are featured on the card to go along with a $10,000 guarantee on the Hoosier High Five in the race 13 finale.
