Bangor, Maine — Harness racing driver Nick Graffam stole the show at Bangor Raceway on Saturday (September 10), steering three winners down Victory Lane while in the process, garnering his 100th driving win of the 2022 season.
Graffam, who splits his time sulky-sitting both along the state of Maine circuit and at Plainridge Racecourse, wasted precious time putting his own special stamp on Saturday’s action at Bangor, teaming Wolverina (Cheyenne Hollywood-Terri I Fra) to her seventh consecutive win in an $18,211 sophomore filly division of the Maine Sire Stakes program.
Trained by Michael Graffam (Nick’s dad), who co-owns the state-bred with William Arnold, Wolverina toyed with the competition in a gate-to-wire six-length gambol which was timed in a seasonal best 1:57.4.
Graffam next gained notoriety with another Maine-bred from his father’s roster as the four-year-old stakes graduate, Justcallmecasey (Deuce Seelster), floated through the lane to a to a 5-1/2 length margin timed in a career best 1:56.2 while returning a generous $22.20 win ticket to her faithful backers.
Graffam’s grand tour concluded while out on safari with My Panther (Panther Hanover), who prowled the pike route to a whisker thin margin timed in 1:55.4 over the lightening quick track at Bangor.
In other Bangor news, driver Ron Cushing teamed two winners on Saturday’s card, including an insistent 1:56.1 score behind the millionaire pacer, Bettor’s Fire N. The win marked the 68th career victory lap for the 14-year-old son of Better’s Delight who is owned in partnership by Kevin Sywick, Ron Cushing and Frank Ranaldi.
Bangor Raceway’s truncated September meet continues on Wednesday (September 14) with post time slated for 3:00 p.m. before concluding on Saturday (September 17) with a 12:15 p.m. performance.
