Chesterfield, NJ — Noel Daley sent out four winners in Wednesday’s (July 5) qualifiers for 2-year-olds at Magical Acres to lead a group of three harness racing trainers with multiple victories on the day. Linda Toscano and Chris Ryder both had two triumphs in the 11 events for the rookies.
Daley’s winners were colt pacer Hurricane J in 1:58.4, colt trotter Lord Ritchie in 1:59.4, and filly trotters Paulina Hanover in 2:01.2 and Buy A Round in 2:03.
Hurricane J (Captaintreacherous-Paisley Hanover) was a $310,000 yearling purchase under the name Twin B Predator at the Standardbred Horse Sale. He is the first foal out of Paisley Hanover, who is a half-sister to Panera Hanover, the dam of word-record-setter Papi Rob Hanover. He is owned by Ken Jacobs and was bred by Twinbrook Limited.
Lord Ritchie (Tactical Landing-Paige Hanover) is owned by Sjoblom Racing, L A Express Stable, Allister Stables, and Daley. He is a full brother to Grand Circuit winner Purple Lord and out of the family of Dan Patch Award winner Broadway Hall. He was bred by Randall Bond and sold for $50,000 at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale.
Paulina Hanover (Father Patrick-Personal Style) is owned by Mario Mazza and was bred by Hanover Shoe Farms. She was purchased for $120,000 at the Standardbred Horse Sale and is a full sister to Grand Circuit winners Patriarch Hanover, Palermo Hanover and Piper Hanover. Her dam was a Hambletonian Oaks champion.
Buy A Round (Walner-On Your Tab) is owned by breeder Fred Hertrich III. She is a three-quarter sister to On The House, who was second in a Lady Suffolk division this year.
Toscano’s two winners were repeat victors from a week ago. Strange Fruit, a filly pacer, posted Wednesday’s fastest time among the 2-year-olds, going in 1:55 over the five-eighths-mile oval at Magical Acres. Pressure Cooker, also a filly pacer, won in 1:56.2.
Strange Fruit (Sweet Lou-Bettor N Better) is owned by Let It Ride Stables and Bottom Line Racing. The homebred filly’s dam was a multiple winner on the Grand Circuit.
Pressure Cooker (Heston Blue Chip-Bettor Be Steamin) also is a homebred owned by Let It Ride Stables and Bottom Line Racing. She is a full sister to Pennsylvania Sire Stakes champ Fulton, who last month won a North America Cup elimination and was third in the final.
Ryder won with colt pacer Social Drinker in 1:58 and filly pacer Where’s Larry in 2:02.3.
Social Drinker (Captaintreacherous-Acclamation), who won last week in 2:01.4, is owned by Ryder Henderson Mondillo, In The Gym Partners, Alan Johnston, and Barry Spak. He was bred by Fred Hertrich III and sold for $150,000 at the Lexington Selected Yearling Sale. His family includes Dan Patch Award winners Mattaroni and Rocklamation, who is the dam of millionaire Rocknificent.
Where’s Larry (Bettor’s Wish-Too Soon To Tell) is owned by breeder Ryder. Her half-sister, Love Love Me Too, also was bred by Ryder, who guided her to top-three finishes in New Jersey Sire Stakes finals at ages 2 and 3.
