Northern Skyway earns 45th career win at Bangor

Bangor, Maine … Foaled and raised in the mid-western splendor of the Hoosier State, Northern Skyway (Guccio-Miss Hall) cut his teeth in competitive battles along Indiana’s harness racing sire stake circuit.

Winning state-bred consolation races as both a two-and-three-year-old under the bright lights of Hoosier Park, he quickly adopted the guise of a work-a-day racehorse, plying his trade at various Midwestern ovals, before hauling his tack back east to stake his claim as a confirmed upper-class campaigner.

Now appearing from trainer James Dunn’s state-of-Maine based stable, Northern Skyway can boast of open-class scores at Plainridge, Pompano, Bangor and Cumberland and has continued his winning ways well into his nine-year-old season, recently winning back-to-back starts at Bangor Raceway en route to claiming his 45th career contest on Wednesday (June 12).

In harness to driver Walter Case, Jr, Northern Skyway was sent decisively from the gate on Wednesday, sternly repelling early challenges as Case commanded the competition into military-like parade formation. Keeping his charge brave through even fractions, Case used the first over Pembroke Honcho (Heath Camlbell) like a roller derby blocker, trapping Inquiring Mind (Steven Wilson) hopelessly in the pocket before before extending out to a 1-1/4 length margin at the wire timed in 1:58.3.

NORTHERN SKYWAY REPLAY

Owned in tandem by Anthony Loiko and Bradford Vellieux, Northern Skyway returned $6.60 to win, a generous 20-cents more than just the week prior versus similar.

The win was one of two consecutive scores on the card for Case, who one race later overcame a zippy :57.4 back-half to parlay a keen pocket journey into the second win of the season for the Dalton Lee trained Jaxson R Browne (Real Desire, 1:58-$3.80).

In other Bangor news, the driver/trainer juggernaut of Dan and Jeffrey Deslandes remained on a torrid tempo, sending both Post Time Terror (Western Terror, 2:00-$4.40) and Lydia’s Liberty (Betterthancheddar, 1:58-$3.60) to the post while adding to their standard setting tallies atop the Bangor Raceway leaderboard.

Live harness racing is proudly featured at Bangor Raceway throughout the summer season every Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 p.m. (EDT) with the Sunday morning matinees going to post bright and early at 11:00 a.m. Simulcast wagering is available daily in the grandstand facility.
