Tonight’s harness racing action features a Pick 5 carryover of more than $5,000 at Northfield Park.
This is not the easiest sequence, but it’s worth taking a shot at with the carryover.
Race 6: 3,4
(3) MR JIGGLES is 1 for 1 in races where he stays flat, but the other two starts where he shows breaks in stride are concerning. He should be right there vs. these if he stays flat.
(4) L FOR LOVE couldn’t seal the deal as the 2 to 5 chalk on Valentine’s Day and her driver is 0 for 18 to start the year, but she is an obvious threat and the one to catch and beat.
Race 7: 1,5,7,9
(1) OH SNAP YOU draws the rail for her debut and The Stable typically sends them ready.
(5) MAJOR’S LUCKY is 0 for 13 but his last two efforts are decent, and he can win here if his form continues to improve.
(7) MCGOWAN BABY GIRL is another who shows improving form and she is worth using as a big bomb in a wide-open race.
(9) DERRINGER figures to improve facing this group but he leaves the gate behind a debutant and could fall victim to racing luck.
Race 8: 1,9
This third leg of the Pick 5 appears to be a two-horse race between the duo that starts closest to the pylons, (1) STARLIT SWAN SONG and MASTER OF AFFAIRS. I’ll stand with those two.
Race 9: 4
(4) HARDT HERO was working his way around stalling cover while the leader was pulling away from the field in his last start and he closed well late, but he simply had no chance of reeling the leader in. I think he gets a more aggressive steer from Merriman here and he will be my single.
Race 10: 1,3,5,9
I’ll be four-deep in the cash leg:
(1) JULA MAGICIAN is hard to leave out starting from the rail. Her good gate speed makes her a logical contender.
(3) BUCKEYE CASH comes off a solid try where he was parked a long way. He could add some value as a 12 to 1 morning line choice.
(5) MAGIC MVP gets needed post relief tonight and I think he gets put into this race leaving the gate.
(9) IMPULSE BAY is a must-use coming off a win at 1 to 9 and keeping the leading driver in the bike.
My ticket: 3,4/1,5,7,9/1,9/4/1,3,5,9 = $64
