Garnet Barnsdale’s Northfield Park Pick 5 analysis

Tonight’s (March 12) harness racing action features a nice Pick 5 carryover of close to $20,000 at Northfield Park.

The carryover should create a final pool of more than $100,000. Remember, the takeout on this wager is a bettor friendly 14%.  Here is a look at the sequence and hopefully a winning ticket.

Race 6: 4,6,7

(4) BEAUTY DESIRES was just 3rd racing a class higher from a wide post. He is a must-use for me here.

(6) BIG KAN D gets out of the second tier, and he looks like a good fit in this spot. I can see him showing speed tonight.

(7) WEST SIDE STEVE got a tough trip as the odds-on chalk last week, but he hung in there for a share. He is another that gets out of the second tier that can show big speed here.

Race 7: 2,6

(2) VENOM gets a key driver change here which likely signals intent. He raced better last week, and he could add some value to this Pick 5.

(6) IAM ERIK A drops, and he was a winner from post 8 racing one level higher than this four starts back. He is a must-use for me.

Race 8: 2

Veteran (2) WILD AND CRAZY GUY lays over this field and he will likely be singled on most tickets.

Race 9: 1,2,3,4,6,7,9

This race looks wide-open to me and maybe the best chance at a price. I’ll use seven of the nine starters and cross my fingers.

Race 10: 8

(8) MAJOR KEENE gets Merriman back after the trainer drove him to a dead-heated 2nd last week. I think he clears passing the 1/4 and leads all the way from there. He will be my second single in the sequence.

My ticket: 4,6,7/2,6/2/1,2,3,4,6,7,9/8 = $42
