With what looked like no place to go at the top of the stretch, harness racing driver Scott Zeron found just enough space along the pylons for Oakwoodnitownit IR (Foreclosure N) to squeeze by and capture the $33,000 Open Handicap Pace at Yonkers Raceway Monday (Dec. 5).
The 7th race feature saw Oakwoodnitownit IR and Zeron leave for the early lead and then gave way to a determined Covered Bridge (Jordan Stratton) at the opening quarter mile in :27.2.
They raced single file to the half mile in :55.4 and then the action really heated up as Genius Man (Braxten Boyd) came first-over with Odds On Capitalism (Brent Holland) second over.
In the backstretch Boyd tried to get Odds On Capitalism to clear by Covered Bridge at the three-quarters in 1:23.4, but they could not get by and then started to fade as Odds On Capitalism went three-wide on the final turn.
Still trapped in the pocket seat at the top of the stretch, Covered Bridge started to bear out and Zeron took Oakwoodnitownit IR down along the pylons and nipped a fast-closing Odds On Osiris by a head in 1:52.2. Odds On Capitalism was third.
