Oberto (Yankee Glide, Billy Davis Jr) and Makin Some Noise (Always B Miki, Kurt Sugg) won their respective $18,000 Open Handicap harness racing divisions on Sunday evening (Jan. 7) at Northfield Park.
In the first feature, the Open trot, Texsong Soprano (Anthony Macdonald) took the early lead. Headoverboots As (Chris Lems) secured the pocket spot and Double Account (Aaron Merriman) was racing in third as they reached the first quarter mile in :27.3.
As they came by the stands for the first time, Texsong Soprano was on top by two lengths over Headoverboots As. As they passed the half mile in :57.4, Stone Mason (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) moved to steal third from the outside.
At the three-quarters in 1:26.4, Texsong Soprano was holding on to the lead, Stone Mason had moved into second, and Headoverboots As was racing in third. Oberto was second-over, looking to make a move. As they made their way down the stretch, Texsong Soprano led the way, but was overcome by Oberto from the far outside as they crossed the wire in 1:57.1. Headoverboots As followed in third.

Oberto is an 8-year-old gelding owned by Paul OāNeil and trained by Jessica Roegner. He paid $13.60 to win.
Mull Of Kintyre (Billy Davis Jr) took the early lead in the second feature of the evening, the Open pace, but was quickly overcome by Greatest Ending (Anthony Macdonald). They passed the first quarter mile in :26.4. As they approached the half mile in :55.3., Makin Some Noise moved from the outside to challenge Greatest Ending for the lead.
Coming to the three-quarter mile in 1:24, Makin Some Noise was the new leader, followed by Elliot Moose (Aaron Merriman) in second. Turning for home, Cyclone Banner N (Chris Lems) moved to challenge the leader. In a tight finish, Makin Some Noise got the victory in 1:54.2. Cyclone Banner N got second and Elliot Moose finished in third.
