With 280 yearlings catalogued at the Ohio Selected Jug Sale, the harness racing auction got underway today the 17th of September. Ohio-based sires with 20 or more cataloged were: Downbytheseaside (44), Enterprise (24), Fear The Dragon (42), Long Tom (30), What The Hill (49).
To this writer the Sale was an outstanding success with the top price of $200,000 for lot 139, a filly by the first season pacing sire Downbytheseaside. Called Elusive Beauty this filly was from the outstanding 100% producing mare Swinging Beauty 1:49.4 ($893,268) and is a half sister to Captain Barbossa 1:47.1 and Whichwaytothebeach 1:49.2. Odds On Racing LLC was the buyer.
On the pacing front Downbytheseaside stole the show with six yearlings making $100,000 plus;
Lot 48 – $105,000 from America Rocks sold to Burke Racing Stable
Lot 66 – $125,000 from Passionate Beauty sold to Nancy Takter as Agent
Lot 99 – $100,000 from Crying Game sold to Robert Cooper
Lot 139 – $200,000 from Swinging Beauty sold to Odds On Racing LLC
Lot 207 – $145,000 from Hollyrocker sold to Mark E Evers
Lot 208 – $152,000 from Gettingreadytoroll sold to Bryan Montgomery Agent for Nancy Takter
On the trotting front first season sire What The Hill was in real demand with a top price of $160,000 for Lot 126 Rose Run Yorick, a colt from the Credit Winner mare She’s Nutz. This colt was sold to the Hatfield Stables in Columbus.
Another standout sire to make an impression with his first crop to the sales was the Chapter Seven stallion Enterprise. Eleven colts sold for an average of $22,909 with one selling for $40,000 while twelve fillies sold for an average of $23,666 with the top price of $51,000.
