Harness racing driver George Brennan made the drive from Freehold, NJ to Chester, PA for just one race, but it was worth the trip for the career winner of 11,650 races.
Brennan came to Harrahās Philadelphia just to drive Mikala (Always B Miki) in the $20,000 Fillies and Mares Open Pace.
The 7th race feature first saw Max Contract (Andy Miller) go to the early lead but then came Mikala and Brennan on the outside to take command after an opening quarter mile in a quick :26 seconds.
Once on the lead, Mikala flew to the half mile marker in :54 with no one pulling on the right line to challenge. Continuing to lead through the three-quarters in 1:22, Mikala kept the field at bay. The closest anyone got to Mikala was at the finish as she held off Boudoir Hanover (Jonathan Ahle) to win by a half a length in 1:49.2. Max Contract was third.
MIKALA REPLAY
It was the third win this season for Mikala. The five-year-old mare is trained by Nik Drennan for owners Joseph Davino, Brad Shackman, Anthony Perretii Farm and the Drennan Stable. She paid $4.20 to win as the wagering favorite.
