Columbus, Ohio – Six divisions of the Buckeye Stallion Series for two-year-old filly pacers went behind the gate on Tuesday (July 26) at Eldorado Scioto Downs. A total of 53 fillies competed in the second leg with each division carrying a purse of $17,500. Of those six divisions, driver Chris Page won four.
In the opener, Page guided Darby Creek (Downbytheseaside) across the wire in the fastest division of the night. The filly found cover at the half and made her move. Darby Creek pulled three-wide in the final turn before tripping the wire in 1:54.1. Trained by Brian Brown, Darby Creek is co-owned by Donald and Michael Robinson, Robert Mondillo, and Rich Lombardo Racing. Chickaboo (Tyler Smith) hung on for second while Summer Fun (Shawn Barker II) finished third.
DARBY CREEK REPLAY
Page and Yankee Nudge (Yankee Cruiser) took the next division in 1:56.3. After being flushed out of cover, Yankee Nudge dug deep to battle her way to the front of the field. The filly found another gear at the top of stretch to score her first win for trainer and owner Joseph Lucas. Hoofprintinthesand (Brett Miller) rallied for second and Apple Martini (Tony Hall) held on for third.
YANKEE NUDGE REPLAY
In the third division, Type A Dragon (Fear The Dragon, Hall) scored her victory in 1:55.4. The gray filly sat in the pocket for most of the mile before swinging three-wide in the final turn. A surge up the stretch secured Type A Dragon’s first win by a nose. Kelly O’Donnell conditions for Emerald Highlands Farm. Mille’s Rockin (Smith) finished in second with Thickerthanasnickr (Ken Holliday) in third.
TYPE A DRAGON REPLAY
After a perfect trip, Copacabana Hanover (Downbytheseaside, Dan Noble) popped the pocket in the final turn to score the next division in 1:54.4. The filly has now bankrolled $16,250 in just three lifetime starts for trainer Andre Nared. Lionel Watiker owns Copacabana Hanover. Seaside Show (Trevor Smith) placed second while The Dragon Queen (Miller) completed the trifecta.
COPACABANA HANOVER REPLAY
Urania Blue Chip (Downbytheseaside) gave Page his third series victory in 1:54.3. The Ron Burke trainee found herself first up after the quarter pole but hung on to make a major move on the backside. After an explosive charge to the front, Urania Blue Chip scored her first lifetime victory. The filly is owned in partnership by Burke Racing Stable, Hatfield Stables, Knox Services, and Phillip Collura. Summa Beach (Noble) was second and High Flyin’ Filly (Aaron Merriman) was third.
URANIA BLUE CHIP REPLAY
Page scored his fourth BSS win aboard Vintage Memories (Western Vintage) in the final division. After getting away seventh, the filly dug deep and pulled three-wide in the last turn. Page popped the earplugs to secure her first victory in 1:57.-. Ryan Ver Hage trains and owns the freshman filly. Vintage Memories bested the 9-5 favorite Miss Maddie P (Miller) in second with Santastic Cruiser (Cushing) in third.
