Monticello, NY— Patrick Hanover (Father Patrick, Michael Merton) won the $6,500 harness racing Open trot at Monticello Raceway on Wednesday afternoon (Feb. 14).
Doo Wop Kid (Alan Schwartz) took the early lead, followed by E R Shane (Bruce Aldrich Jr) in second and Meadowbranch Ricky (Thomas Merton) in third. They reached the opening quarter in :29.2. They were still in this position as they passed the half mile in 1:00.2. As they made their way down the backstretch, Patrick Hanover started to move to the front from the outside. As they approached the three-quarter mile in 1:31, Doo Wop Kid was in front, with Patrick Hanover closing in. E R Shane was racing in third, and My Sweet Mi Mi (Kyle Dibenedetto) had moved into fourth. As they turned for home, Patrick Hanover stole the lead and kept it, crossing the wire in 2:02.1. My Sweet Mi Mi came in second and E R Shane followed in third.

Patrick Hanover is a 5-year-old gelding owned by William Damberg and trained by Robert Lounsbury. He paid $9.10 to win.
Michael Merton got a driving double.
