Perfect record on the line in Tuesday KY Championship Series

Lexington, KY — On Tuesday (Aug. 16) The Red Mile will host two $80,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Championship Series, three $30,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Commonwealth Series and four $15,000 second round legs of the Kentucky Golden Rod Series for harness racing freshman and sophomore trotters and pacers.

The undefeated Blue Lou (Sweet Lou-Dance Blue) will place his unblemished record on the line, while Kentucky champion Double Deceiver (Cantab Hall-Saucy) seeks his third consecutive win after establishing a new lifetime mark in first round action.

On Aug. 7 Blue Lou improved his record to three wins from three starts when the colt annexed the first Championship leg for freshman pacers by a neck in 1:52. Trained by Nancy Takter, Blue Lou debuted in a $17,500 race for 2-year-olds at The Meadowlands on July 7. He then won a $20,000 first leg of the Kindergarten series over that same oval on July 15.

Blue Lou is 5-2 on the morning line and will leave from post position five in the field of seven with regular pilot Andrew McCarthy in the bike. He is owned by Morrison Racing Stables, Marvin Katz and Brian Gordon and was bred by Katz, Sam Goldband and Goran Anderberg.

Blue Lou is the first foal out of his dam, who won $313,450 during her racing career.

Double Deceiver seeks to extend his winning streak to three when he and driver David Miller take on nine rivals in the Championship series leg for 3-year-old male trotters. The connections opted to skip the $1 million Hambletonian on Aug. 6. The gelding was second in the $280,094 MGM Yonkers Trot to Joviality S on July 1 and victorious in a $43,500 division of the Tompkins-Geer Stake on July 23 at The Meadowlands.

Trained by Carter Pinske, Double Deceiver vaulted off cover to take the first leg of this series in 1:51.4 on Aug. 8. The gelding will begin trotting from post position eight and is 3-1 on the morning line.

Double Deceiver’s resume stands at 17-7-7-0 with $423,475 in purse money. He was bred by Steve Stewart and Oakwood Farms and is owned by Pinske Stables and Makenna Pinske.

Commonwealth Series

There will be three $30,000 divisions of the Commonwealth series on Tuesday. Two of those races are for 2-year-old male pacers and one is for 3-year-old male trotters. Ducasse (Father Patrick, A. McCarthy) is the morning line favorite in the sophomore trot and will leave from post position seven in the field of eight for Takter.

Ducasse was bred by Fair Island Farm who owns him in partnership with Brixton Medical, Christina Takter and Hatfield Stables.

The undefeated Cant Stop Lou (Sweet Lou– Can’t Stop Me Now) is favored in the first division for freshman pacers. The colt is 3-1 on the morning line in the field of nine. He is trained by Takter and Yannick Gingras will be holding the lines.

Cant Stop Lou was bred by Diamond Creek Farm and is owned by his trainer, Jaf Racing, Rojan Stables, RAW Equine and Jeffrey Bell.

In the second division, Cannibal (Sweet Lou-No More Losses) will attempt to collect his second victory in his second start. The Takter trainee was impressive in his debut in the first leg of the Golden Rod series on Aug. 7 on a sloppy track and stopped the clock in 1:53.2 in dominant fashion.

Cannibal is 5-2 on the morning line and will leave from post position six. He retains the services of Gingras and will face eight rivals.

The colt competes as a homebred for Diamond Creek Racing.

Golden Rod Series

There will be two divisions for sophomore trotters and two divisions for 2-year-old male pacers.

There will be a guaranteed $10,000 Pick-4 (races six through nine) in conjunction with the U.S. Trotting Association’s Strategic Wagering Program.
