Unusual Clarity (Betterthancheddar) and harness racing driver Ron Harp captured the $6,000 featured fillies & mares’ pace at Vernon Downs on Friday (August 30).
Unusual Clarity ($2.90) went to the front and led to the quarter in :26.4. She slowed down the pace with a :29.2 second quarter to be first to the half :56.1. She remained in command and led to three-quarters in 1:24.3.
As they reached the stretch second place finisher Lady To Watch (Leon Bailey) slipped through an opening on the inside and the two mares went at it. They were side by side neither one wanted to give an inch. Unusual Clarity let out one last burst to get the win by a head in a lifetime best of 1:52.3. Not Worth It (Henrey Westbrook III) finished third.
Unusual Clarity is a 9-year-old mare owned by Nicholas Gibides and trained by Harp. It was her fifth win this season. She now has 38 career victories.

Dangnearcrazy (Mark Whitcroft) scored her first career victory in her 65th start. She is owned and trained by Cheryl Whitcroft. She paid $56.00 to win.
