Skowhegan, Maine … From Pompano to Bangor, Post Time Terror (Western Terror) has graced the raceways of harness racing tracks all along the Eastern Seabord. A popular mare, she’s been claimed a total of eleven times, raced from the rosters of fourteen different trainers, and visited the winners circles of eleven different tracks, but throughout the years, and whatever the venue, her desire to win has never been questioned.
On Monday (Aug. 14) afternoon at Skowhegan State Fair, the 11-year-old glided down Victory Lane for the 50th time in her career with, now regular driver, Dan Deslandes, sitting the sulky.
Sent to post as the lukewarm 2-1 favorite, Deslandes smartly hustled his charge off the gate, rating the veteran mare through reasonable yet progressively quickening fractions of :29.3, :29.2, :29.1, before throwing in a final panel of :29; all adding up to the masterful 1:57.1 score.
Trained by Jeff Deslandes for owner Ronald Dinsmore, Post Time Terror return a $6.00 win ticket to the fans while passing over the $225,000 level in career earnings.
The win was one of two on the card for the Deslandes clan who also scored in a tight photo with Swellendam (1:56.4), a 10-year-old son of Bettor’s Delight, who is co-owned by Peter Blood with Dan Deslandes.
In other Skowhegan news, drivers Kevin Switzer, Jr and Heath Campbell joined Dan Deslandes in recording driving doubles on the program, while trainers, Marc Tardif and Valerie Grondin matched Jeff Deslandes with two conditioning wins apiece.
The weeklong Skowhegan meet heads under the lights on Tuesday and Thursday (August 15 and 17) with post time slated at 7:00 p.m. (EDT) and will conclude with 1:00 p.m. cards on Friday and Saturday (August 18 and 19). Saturday’s card will feature the $15,000 Hight Memorial Invitational which annually attracts the finest horses in New England.
