On Monday July 10th Ocean Downs hosted a single preliminary leg of the Maryland Sire Stakes for three-year-old trotting colts and geldings and a pair of splits for the filly harness racing pacers.
Reinsman John Wagner piloted Jewett (Lockkeeper) to a wire to wire win, a head in front of Tenouttaten (Camās Rocket), in 2:00.3 for the male trotters. Wagner trains Jewett for owner Pam Wagner, Arlene Cameron is the breeder.
Phoenix Rising (Movie Idol) scored her fifth straight win and seventh for the year in the first split for the sophomore filly pacers. Frank Milby was between the wheels, scoring the neck victory over Spyās Last Game (Rustyās For Real) in 1:56.1. Franklin Gannon III trains and co-owns the filly with Elizabeth Gannon. The breeders are Franklin Gannon III, Franklin Gannon Jr. and Joan Gannon.
Valās Girl (Rustyās For Real) returned to form after a couple of second place finishes by scoring an almost 2 length victory over Lloydās Loves (Rustyās All In) in the final division for the filly pacers. Time for the mile was 1:56.2. Roger Plante Jr. guided Val for owners Leblanc Racing Inc, William Lutz Jr. and Count De Money Stable, Tom and Linda Winebrener were the breeders.
The final round of three-year-old preliminaries continue with the trotting fillies and pacing colts on Wednesday July 12.
