OCEAN CITY, MD – Ocean Downs hosted the four $70,000 Maryland Sire Stakes summer harness racing finals for two year olds on Wednesday Sept. 8th.
The Ronald C. āDocā Banning Memorial for the trotting fillies went to post as an early non-wagering event. Driver Russell Foster sent You’ll āNever Be Me (Camās Rocket) gate to post in the 2:03.4 mile for owner-trainer-breeder Richard Hans. Charlieās Song (Charlie De Vie) took the place spot.
Race three on the card was the W. W. āPeteā Shaw Memorial for the trotting colts and geldings. The first quarter was a battle to the lead with Hoofbeats De Vie (Charlie De Vie) finally taking the front from Tungsten Tim (Lockkeeper) in 30.1. The battle was over and Hoofbeats De Vie stopped the clock in 2:01.1 with Tungsten Tim holding the place position. Russell Foster was between the wheels for trainer Chris Lakata and owner-breeder Joie De Vie Farm.
Anthonyās All In (Rustyās All In) with reinsman John Wagner in the bike had clear sailing in their wire to wire win when Rapid Pulse Ā in the two hole made a break at the Ā¾ pole scattering the field. Donnyās All In (Rustyās All In) recovered quickly to finish second in the Hubert Jackson Memorial for pacing colts and geldings. Wagner is also the trainer for owner-breeder Pam Wagner. Time for the mile was 2:01.2.
The final stake race of the card and summer season was race 6 the Dale Massey Memorial for pacing fillies. Russel Foster picked up his third stakes win of the night steering Grey Rocket (Camās Rocket) first to the wire in 1:59.4 1 Ā½ lengths ahead of Predict The Future (Rustyās All In). Grey Rocket is owned-trained and bred by Roger Hans.
Stakes action for the freshmen will continue in October at Rosecroft Raceway.
