Primo Maschio too slick on last day of racing

Primo Maschio (Badlands Hanover) won coast to coast in the $51,500  Bally’s Dover Late Closer Final for Three Year Old harness racing Colt and Gelding Pacers at Bally’s Dover on Thursday night.

Lew Not Lou and Primo Maschio squared off at the start of the race. Primo Maschio finally cleared the lead after being parked out by a pesky Lew Not Lou, who grudgingly accepted the pocket.  The opening quarter was dashed off in snappy 27.2. Trae Porter and Primo Maschio held the pedal to the metal as they led the field to the half in 56.2 (29).

Won Last Call moved off the pylons from fourth and raced 1st over down the backstretch. Shore Not Beach followed loose cover 2nd over on the rim.

Primo Maschio, the 1/9 betting favorite, was pacing effortlessly on the lead after reached the three quarters in 1:24, a 27.3 stunner. Primio Maschio accelerated in the stretch to win by six and a half lengths in 1:52, a lifetime mark. Lew Not Lou finished 2nd and Wyatt Earp was 3rd.

Primo Maschio (Badlands Hanover) is owned by Forrest L Bartlett of Shiloh, North Carolina.  Mr. Bartlet also owned  former Horse Of The Year. Forrest Skipper.  Walter Callahan trained. Callahan drove horses in the 70’s and 80’s at Brandywine Raceway, Liberty Bell Park and Garden State Park and turned his horsemen skills to  becoming a successful trainer. 23 year old Trae Porter drove. Trae is the grandson of former catch driver Jim Porter who campaigned in the Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland circuits back in the day.

PRIMO MACHO REPLAY

The $25,000 Open Handicap Pace was won by Downers Delight in 1:49.2. It was a lifetime mark and his 5th consecutive win.  He was claimed for $50,000 earlier in the meet and is owned by TlB racing LLC of Harrington, Delaware.

Traci Berry trained and Pat Berry drove. Adam Twelve finished 2nd and Leave It To Leo was third.  The 2024-2025 live harness racing meet has ended.
