11-1 Quick Magic made good use of a 2-hole trip behind favorite and leader Nova Artist and closed strongly to win a 1:52.2 photo finish in the Sunday Feb.21 feature race at Dover Downs. Harness racing driver Ross Wolfenden had a three-bagger.
Nova Artist (Allan Davis) took the early lead and fashioned all the fractions until a trio of rivals roared up to challenge nearing the finish line. Major Bucks (Jonathan Roberts) was first to challenged coming alongside while Quick Magic had the most speed for driver Vic Kirby and poked his nose first at the wire. It was the second straight trlp to the winner's circle for the Quik Pulse Mindale-Magical Life gelding owned and trained by Ed Gannon Jr. The victory was third in two months for Quick Magic who won for 15th time in his career earing $128.988 lifetime. Major Bucks held on for second in front of Nova Artist.
Another quick winner, this time Kwik Mac, a McArdle-Kwik Dial gelding, won the sub feature for 3,4&5-Year-Old pacers turning in a !:54.2 success. Russ Foster drive the Eric Ell trainee owned by Jim Jennings to a lifetime fastest victory wire-to wire. Wishes In The Rain (Sean Bier) was runner-up. Sick Rain (Art Stafford Jr.) was third.
In addition to Wolfenden's three winning drives, Montrell Teague, trainer Clyde Francis and part owner George Teague combined for both ends of the daily double when Illtakeitfromhere, co-owned with K&R Racing and Western Lynx in the second co owned with Annelis Horn won the 1st and 2nd races.
LUCAN HANOVER JOINS 30,000 PREFERRED MONDAY AT DOVER
Lucan Hanover makes his seasonal debut this Monday, Feb. 22 in the $30,000 Preferred pace at Dover Downs on one of the biggest cards of the week in the sport. Post time is 4:30 p.m.
Last week, Vic Kirby guided Richard Pollock’s Dapper Dude to a strong closing 1:50.3 victory over an ‘off’ track for his second win in three starts. For the second time in-a-row, Max Walton and Greg Papaleo’s Mustang Art with Sean Bier driving finished second. Race favorite, Bushwacker, saw a two-race win streak end with a third-place finish. Sweet Rock with Allan Davis piloting for Reg Hazzard, G.P. Calloway and Legacy Racing will leave from the rail with Al Carter and Doug Lewis’ fast finishing Captive Audience and Corey Callahan, alongside, Foulk Stable’s Sparky Mark, who went over the $1-million milestone last week, will be driven by Jonathan Roberts, to complete the field.
On the highly competitive undercard are two $15,000, a $14,500, a $13,500, and a $12,000 paces and a strong $15,000 Claiming pace.
Monday through Thursday racing begins at 4:30 p.m. The final Sunday card of the season is set with post time is 5:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday are dark days. The Dover Downs meet continues until April 7.
