Plainville, MA — Making her way to the Bay State via Pennsylvania and Kentucky, Racin Hungry (Stay Hungry) had no trouble acclimating to her new harness racing environment and won the $20,000 upper-level conditioned pace for fillies and mares at Plainridge Park on Monday (Aug. 26) afternoon.
Seaside Tina (Tyler Miller) took the early lead and played hardball with Racin Hungry (Brett Beckwith) before giving way on the point as they passed the quarter in :26.2. Once Racin Hungry crossed over, Beckwith throttled down the half to :55 before Ryās Red Rocket (Bruce Ranger) moved first-over and drew alongside the leader at three-quarters.
Ry’s Red Rocket continued to pressure Racin Hungry through the last turn but Racin Hungry eventually put her away and took a one length lead into the stretch. However, the race still wasn’t over as a wall of horses was spread across the track and all were closing in. But Racin Hungry was not to be denied and turned them all away to win by a neck in a new seasonal mark of 1:51.
Racin Hungry is owned by Glenn Goller and Stephen Demeter and is trained by Mark Beckwith.
RACIN HUNGRY REPLAY
Brett Beckwith and Mark Beckwith also teamed up to win with Perfect Pour (1:54, $3.60) before Brett ended the day with three driving wins.
In the $16,000 secondary featured conditioned pace for 6-year-olds and under, Andy Mac Hanover (Captaintreacherous, Matty Athearn) turned in the mile of his life.
After sitting the pocket behind Mach Seelster (Mitchell Cushing) through torrid quarters of :26.1, :54.1 and 1:21.4, Athearn tipped Andy Mac Hanover at the top of the lane and paced smartly to the front and a neck victory in 1:50.4.
Andy Mac Hanover ($6.80) is owned by Rick Cortese and Marc Reynolds and trained by Jimmy Nickerson.
ANDY MAC HANOVER REPLAY
Athearn and Nickerson partnered earlier to win with I Spy N (1:53.1, $8.40) as well.
Racing resumes at Plainridge Park on Tuesday (Aug. 27) with post time at 4 p.m.
