Lexington, KY — County Line Cred, a son of stallion Downbytheseaside out of Tookaloo Hanover, led Saturday’s final night of the harness racing Lexington Selected Yearling Sale with a price of $230,000 as the event concluded having set records for gross and average over the course of its five sessions at the Fasig-Tipton Sales Pavilion.
The sale totaled $56.6 million for 863 yearlings. The previous record for gross was $46.4 million for 762 horses in 2019. In 2020, the sale grossed $41.5 million for 816 horses. This year’s figure represented a 36.4 percent increase over 2020 and a 21.9 percent hike above the 2019 record.
In addition, the sale averaged $65,692. The previous high, also in 2019, was $60,997. The average last year was $50,922. This year’s number was a 28.8 percent increase over 2020 and a 7.5 percent increase over 2019.
Saturday’s portion of the sale set records for fifth-session gross and average, totaling $5.28 million for 148 yearlings and averaging $35,713. Last year, the fifth-session gross was $4.94 million for 168 horses and the average was $29,423. This year’s increases were 6.9 percent for gross and 21.3 percent for average.
County Line Cred, one of seven Downbytheseaside-sired yearlings to sell for six figures Saturday, was purchased by Diamond Creek Farm. The Ohio and New Jersey Standardbred Development Fund eligible colt is from the family of O’Brien Award-winner Tall Drink Hanover. He was bred by Stephen Dey III and consigned by Preferred Equine Marketing.
Second on the top seller’s list was Boardwalk Jack, a colt out of Dan Patch Award-winner Restive Hanover, who sold for $130,000 to the Burke Racing Stable. He was bred and consigned by Winbak Farm. He is Ohio and Maryland eligible.
The Burke Racing Stable also bought the session’s third-highest seller, colt Act Fast, for $125,000. He is out of Act Like A Diva and from the family of Dan Patch Award-winner Allamerican Native. He is Ohio and Maryland eligible. He was bred by Frederick Hertrich III and consigned by All American Harnessbreds.
