Monticello, NY— Reigning Deo (Rock N Roll Heaven, Michael Merton) won the $6,500 harness racing Open pace at Monticello Raceway on Tuesday afternoon (Feb. 6).
Vel Mr Nice Guy (Joseph Chindano Jr) took the early lead, but was quickly overcome by Some Deal Hanover (Bruce Aldrich Jr) from the outside. As they approached the first quarter mile in :27.4, Some Deal Hanover was the leader, followed by Vel Mr Nice Guy in second, and Kj Unreal (Jim Taggart Jr) racing in third. They were still in this position at the half mile in :57.1.
From the far outside, Reigning Deo was first-over and looking to challenge Some Deal Hanover for the lead. As they passed the three-quarter mile in 1:26.1, Reigning Deo was in front.
As they turned for home, Vel Mr Nice Guy came up to challenge from the outside and Trevor’s Ace (Fern Paquet Jr) came to challenge from the inside, but Reigning Deo got the victory in 1:55.1. Vel Mr Nice Guy finished in second and Trevor’s Ace came in third.

Reigning Deo is an 8-year-old gelding trained by Travis Alexander for owners Alexander Racing Stable LLC, Brian Gordon, and Stephen Gordon. He paid $5.90 to win.
Gregory Merton got a driving double, Michelle Lefebvre got a training double, and Michael Merton got a driving triple.
