OAK GROVE, KY — On Tuesday afternoon (June 4), harness racing driver Dexter Dunn will look to maintain his momentum with a pair of spring Kentucky Sire Stakes champion 4-year-old trotters in Bestfriend Volo (Walner-Bank Of Newport) and Mambacita (Tactical Landing-Bill’s Lady), both of whom have been installed as even-money morning line favorites in their respective $50,000 Kentucky Sire Stakes preliminaries at Oak Grove.

Bestfriend Volo, who held off Once In A Lifetime to win the spring KYSS final in 1:52.2 on May 13, returns to action after a brief rest for trainer Nancy Takter and her co-owners Christina Takter, 3 Brothers Stables and Deja Blu. The gelding has reeled off four straight wins, including a 1:51.3 score in the New Jersey Maturity, and has drawn post three in the afternoon’s third race, which is also the last of three divisions for male trotters.

Among his six rivals is Julie Miller trainee and 2022 Kentucky Commonwealth Series Champion Espresso (driven by Andy Miller, post six), who makes his 4-year-old debut off a pair of qualifiers at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

Mambacita also looks to extend her current winning streak to five after a 1:53.2 win in last week’s first preliminary leg and a clean sweep of the spring series. The mare has delivered at odds-on in all four of her seasonal starts and will start from post six in the lone event for trotting mares, carded as race five. Tony Alagna trains the 15-time winner for Crawford Farms Racing, Alagna Racing and Pryde Stables.

In all, $420,000 in purses will be at stake on the Tuesday Oak Grove program, which includes a non-wagering KYSS preliminary for 4-year-old pacing mares at 2:45 p.m. CDT prior to the 13-race pari-mutuel program, which begins at 3 p.m. CDT (4 p.m. EDT). As always, free past-performance pages and The Players’ Guide, featuring commentary from racing analyst Ray Cotolo, are available on the Oak Grove website.
