Freehold Raceway hosted the $45,000 harness racing final of the Renaissance Series for two-year-old fillies over a track labeled good with Miki In Luv (Always A Miki) having no issues with the off-track in wiring the field Saturday (Sept. 30) afternoon.
The 9th race feature saw race favorite Miki In Luv and driver Daniel Dube leave from post five and scoot right out to the early lead with Iām A Believer (Austin Siegelman) grabbing the two-hole spot to the opening quarter mile in :28.2.
With no one challenging, Miki In Luv cut the mile to the half in :57. Then Odds On Steno (Jordan Stratton) moved first-over from third place, but could not gain on Miki In Luv as she pulled away to a two length lead past the three-quarters in 1:25.4.
That lead increased as they went around the final turn as Miki In Luv was up by three lengths at the top of the stretch and breezed home to win by one and one-half lengths in 1:55.2. Odds On Steno was second with Top Of Mind (Tyler Miller) third.
MIKI IN LUV REPLAY
It was the third straight win and sixth victory of the season for Miki In Luv. She is trained and co-owned by Ron Coyne, Jr. with Blair Corbeil, Richard Carney and Farrell Carney. She paid $3.80 to win.
Turbochargedpete (Uncle Peter) and driver John Calabrese crossed the half-mile mark last of the eight, but when the field swung back around for the finish he was in charge of the pack and won the $9,000 American Harness Drivers Club (AHDC) Trot at Freehold Raceway on Saturday afternoon (Sept. 30).
Keystone Apache (driven by Bob Hechkoff), the 9-5 favorite, led the field by a :29 first quarter and quickly faced pressure to the top of the stretch first time. Blogmaster (Matt Zuccarello) led the outer tier out of third and moved up to the leaderās wheel by a 1:00 half.
At this point Calabrese sat fourth over with Turbochargedpete, and with the speed soft up the backside he unleashed his charge to swoop and lead the outer tier. Turbochargedpete drew alongside Keystone Apache after three-quarter in 1:30 and downed him in the lane, sliding 1-3/4 lengths clear to a 1:59.4 victory. Allindotime (Bruce Baker) grabbed third, another three lengths back, with My Big Kadillac (Mike Polansky) fourth.
Scott Di Domenico trains Turbochargedpete, a 6-year-old gelding, for owners Chris Page and Triple D Stables Inc. He paid $13.20 to win.
