LEXINGTON, KY— After years of offering an estimated purse, The Red Mile will guarantee purse monies for the 2023 renewal of its marquee harness racing event and its filly companion, the Kentucky Futurity and Filly Futurity.
The 2023 Kentucky Futurity will offer a guaranteed purse of $450,000 and the Kentucky Filly Futurity will offer a guaranteed purse of $275,000. Horsepeople are reminded that both futurities are in single-dash format; only one heat, the final, will go to post.
Each race allows no more than 11 horses to compete – if 12 or more drop into the box, the 11 horses with the most purse earnings in 2023 will receive entry preference. Red Mile will also host consolations for both events if at least six horses are available from the box. The Kentucky Futurity consolation will feature a purse of $50,000 and the Kentucky Filly Futurity consolation will feature a purse of $25,000.
A declaration fee will be due at time of entry for both events – a $7,500 fee for the Kentucky Futurity and a $3,500 fee for the Kentucky Filly Futurity. Horses not paid into the futurity events can also drop into the box for a supplemental fee – $75,000 for the Kentucky Futurity and $50,000 for the Kentucky Filly Futurity. No declaration fee will be due for horses competing in the consolation.
Red Mile will host the Kentucky Futurity and Kentucky Filly Futurity on the closing card of its fortnight Grand Circuit meet on Sunday, Oct. 8. The last jewel of trotting’s triple crown wraps the day that will also feature the sport’s top pacing sophomores in the $400,000 (est.) Tattersalls Pace and $225,000 (est.) Glen Garnsey Memorial, as well as the top aged Standardbreds in divisions of the Allerage Farms.
