FREEHOLD, N.J.— Harness racing amateur driver Paul Minore protected pylon position with 15-1 Pilsner Frosty (Six Pack) and kept his competition to his back to take the $9,000 American Harness Drivers Club (AHDC) Trot at Freehold Raceway on Saturday afternoon (March 30).
Pilsner Frosty pushed for the lead and pocketed 2-1 favorite Hammer Creek (driven by James Slendorn) to a :29.2 first quarter. Livingontherail (Joe Lee) raced parked into the second turn and tried marching forward to press the leader into a 1:00 half before stalling into the backstretch.
Under only mild pressure, Pilsner Frosty stayed in hand to three-quarters in 1:30.4 and braced for a challenge rounding for home. Spirit Of Success (John Calabrese) emerged from mid-pack into the stretch and charged after Pilsner Frosty late but coming a neck short at the end of a 2:01.4 mile. Hammer Creek gave chase in third and Awol Hanover (Steven Reisenweaver) rode a pylon trip for fourth.
Taylor Gower trains Pilsner Frosty, a 3-year-old filly, for owner Paul Minore. She paid $33.80 to win.
