Harnesslink reporter Kimberly Rinker crushed her five male opponents in the Borgata/Matchmaker Handicapping Contest Monday night (April 24) at Yonkers Raceway, correctly selecting both winners in the harness racing finals, and that included picking 47-1 upset winner Hellabalou.
After the $328,200 Blue Chip Matchmaker final was won by Amazing Dream N ($7.20), four of the handicappers, Trey Colbeck, Thomas H Hicks, Kim Rinker and Steve Wolf, all correctly selected the winner.
Then in the $511,000 final of the MGM Borgata Pacing Series, the longest shot on the tote board, Hellabalou and driver Joe Bongiorno came up the inside for the stunning upset at odds of 47-1, came in and paid $96.00 to win.
And there was Kimberly Rinker, standing all alone with the amazing winning race selection to capture the competition.
āI had a feeling about this horse because I know Burke always comes through in a pinch,ā Rinker explained. āAnd as I said previously, this horse started the year strong, so I figured he might have been sick or a little off in his last few starts.Ā I never underestimate Burke’s ability to get a horse to come up with a big effort at just the right time. That’s not something you can teach a person, it’s either innate in them to understand horses or it isn’t.”
Rinker now owns the bragging rights among all the Harnesslink staff, but did she wager even $2 on her 47-1 longshot selection?ā
“I rarely bet, Rinker said, ābut when I saw the odds on this horse, I WAS tempted.ā
