Linda Mac Donald’s Buttoncandy (E L Platinum, $13, Art Stafford Jr.) was a 2:04.4 winner in the filly trotting final over Holly Lou and Lady Burg. Taking advantage of attrition at the start when multiple horses went off stride, Buttoncandy cruised to her second career win for trainer Joe Mac Donald. The E L Platinum filly improved to 2-for-3 lifetime.

Melvin G (E L Platinum, $2.10, Jim Morand) notched his 3rd straight win in the male trotting final in 1:59.2 over Wolfpack Cheddar and Legend Of Rock. Owned by Legacy Racing and Nanticoke Racing, the Les Givens-trainee was coming off a track record performance the week prior in 1:58.1 and was a comfortable front end winner.

In the $50,000 Allen J Cook Jr. Memorial, Breakaway Racing and Yorwollahan Racing’s Speed Away ($9.80) recorded his 3rd straight win over Sinatra De Vie and Not For Moni in 1:55.2. The Nick Callahan trainee continued his success over the Harrington half-mile oval with a sustained first-over gain and victory. All six of his wins in 2024 have come at Harrington.

The race was named in honor of the long-time racing official and former horsemen who was extremely popular among the local racing community.
