With a wire-to-wire effort over a good track, 9-1 Rose Run Valor (Uncle Peter) and harness racing driver Kayne Kauffman were at their best once again in capturing the $30,000 Open Trot Wednesday (Jan. 25) at Miami Valley Raceway. They won the top trot last week at 31-1 odds.
The 11th race feature saw Rose Run Valor and Kauffman shoot to the lead from post two with Sly Little Fox (Jordan Ross) grabbing the two-hole trip and the race favorite, Angel Nation (Trace Tetrick), stuck first-over to the first quarter mile in :28.1.
Going to the half mile, Angel Nation moved into second place on the outside as Rose Run Valor tripped the teletimer in :58. Still determined to stay in the hunt, Angel Nation stayed vigilant on the outside of Rose Run Valor past the three-quarters in 1:26.3.
By the top of the stretch, Angel Nation started to fade, but Rose Run Valor was not tired yet and held off the pocket-sitting Sly Little Fox to win by one length in 1:55.4 with Angel Nation hanging on for third place.
ROSE RUN VALOR REPLAY
It was the second straight win and third of the year for Rose Run Valor. The six-year-old gelding is trained by Kayne Kauffman and owned by Natalie Kauffman. He paid $20.80 to win.
