Davis pilots 34th lifetime winner to another

DOVER, Del. — Veteran pacer Special T Rocks returned to the winner's circle following a 1:51.3 victory in the Sunday feature race, after an early light snow shower over a 'good' harness racing track at Dover Downs on Jan. 17. Too Darn Hot won the $20,000-$25,000 Claimer and Brioni took his fourth straight. Driver Ross Wolfenden had a four-win night.

Allan Davis piloted $497,149 and 34th lifetime winner Special T Rocks, an eight-year-old altered son of Rocknroll Hanover-Ladys Special, to his first win of the meet scoring a 1:51.3 triumph in a $9,000 Male pace for trainer Joe Hundertpfund and owner John Cancelliere. Allstar Preview (George Dennis) closed for second in front of Shellysblockbuster (Vic Copeland) third.

In the sub-feature $20,000-$25,000 4&5-Year-Old Claiming Handicap, Jason Lynch and Too Darn Hot quick-stepped past leader If You Want Fire (A.Davis) on the backstretch and then opened up on the way to a 1:52.3 lifetime record victory. Three Day Forecast (Tony Morgan) was runner-up. Big Secret (Jonathan Roberts) collected third money. Trainer-driver Lynch and Jim Jacobs own the four-year-old Rocknroll Hnaover-Kiss Me Kate winning gelding.

Claimed for $10,000 last month, Briono stepped up to the $15,000 ranks and won for the fourth consecutive start and six of his previous seven outings. The Four Starzzz-Shark-Armbro Bahama gelding is owned by trainer Arty Foster. Marcus Miller has been his regular winning driver.

Ross Wolfenden led the drivers with four wins. Allan Davis had three wins as did trainer Joe Hundertpfund, Tony Morgan notched a double.Trainer Tim Crissman, owner Crissman Inc. and owner Arty Foster also haltered two wins each.

CAPTIVE AUDIENCE SEEKS REPEAT IN $27,500 DELAWARE SPECIAL

Following a wire-to-wire victory from the rail in last week’s $27,500 Delaware Special, Captive Audience and Yannick Gingras start from the outside this week in the Martin Luther King feature race at Dover Downs on Monday, Jan. 18. Post time for racing is4:30 p.m.

Al “Rusty” Carter and trainer Doug Lewis own the ultra-sharp Captive Audience, who racked up two wins, a second and a third in starts since early December gets the nod as favorite in the select field of six. Janet Hudson’s Just A Jolt, after a week off, finally gets a better starting post this week with Tim Tetrick driving.

Max Walton and Greg Papleo’s Mustang Art, handled by Brett Miller, winner of this event two weeks ago, and Reggie Hazzard and Legacy Racing’s Bad Boy Matt, second last Monday, with Allan Davis are joined by  driver Art Stafford and brother Andrew Stafford’s Framed Art, who makes a major changed starting from the rail instead of outside, last week. Elizabeth Brittingham’s Raritan Bay, reined by Bret Brittingham) drew alongside.

The $15,000 4&5-Year-Old Male pace is highly competitive. Three starters won last week. Weaver Bruscemi and Burke Racing’s Class Six (Gingras) has two straight wins and seven in his last eight starts, Art Stafford and trainer-driver Art Stafford Jr.’s Blazing Bobby Sox is on a tier himself with four winners in five starts, and Denise Davis, Sharon White and Legacy Racing’s Casey At Bat (A.Davis) has been impressive in his six starts since arriving from Chicago with three wins.

Kapildeo Singh’s Apollo Seelster (Jonathan Roberts) has the rail, and Frank Chick’s Totally Dreamy (George Dennis) finished second in their last starts. Kathleen Brewer’s Quick Shot (Tony Morgan) and Rich Lombardo, Baron Racing and Josh Green’s Sectionline Rocks (Tetrick) cannot be overlooked.

Topping a strong undercard, Little Ben (Tetrick) racing for Janet Hudson and JoAnn Looney-King, takes on Ken Wood, Bill Dittmar and Steve Iaquinta’s sharp Adventure Bound (Gingras), Reg Hazzard and legacy Racing’s Papa Ray (A.Davis) and Robbins Next Farm’s Gallic Beach (G.Dennis) a winner of four of his last five in a $14,000 Winners-Over Male pace.
