Ruthless Hanover (Somebeachsomewhere) turned in an impressive harness racing performance in the inaugural $158,140 Dave Brower Memorial, setting wicked fractions of :25.2, :52.4, and 1:19.4 before flying home to win in 1:46.4. That clocking equals the track record for an aged gelding on a mile track, set by Holborn Hanover on August 5, 2006.
Tim Tetrick was in the sulky behind the 6-year-old gelding, the 3-1 choice, who is trained by Tom Cancelliere and owner John Cancelliere of Clark, NJ.Ā This was Ruthless Hanoverās 21st career victory and fifth this season in eight starts. He now has $514,368 in career earnings.
āHeās tough, heās rugged, and he likes to go fast,ā Tetrick said. āI had him way up in the bit and he didnāt know he was going in :25.2 that first quarter.Ā I wanted to get the others tired, and my horse raced great and did his job.ā
Abuckabett Hanover at 4-1 was a fast-closing second for Andrew McCarthy, while Red Right Hand (16-1) was third for Scott Zeron and Lochinvar Art A (8-1) was fourth for Lauren Tritton.
