Using a :27.2 last quarter mile kick, Hudson Phil and driver Billy Dobson were able to blow by the race leaders and score a one length triumph in the $15,000 Open Handicapped Pace at Saratoga Raceway on Saturday.
The sixth race feature started off with Major Crocker A and driver Luke Hanners shooting to the early lead with Lake Charles (Leon Bailey) grabbing the two-hole spot while Hudson Phil got away in fourth place.
They went by the opening quarter mile in :29.2 and then the half mile in :59.1 and then at the three-quarters in 1:26.3, Dobdson moved Hudson Phil first-over flushing Lake Charles, so Hudson Phil had to tip out three-wide.
Hudson Phil had momentum and Dobson never had to raise his whip. Time of the mile was 1:55. Lake Charles was second with Major Crocker A third.
