Saulsbrook Deputy authoritative in Buffalo

HAMBURG, N.Y. — Saulsbrook Deputy ($11.20) turned out to be the ‘general’ in Buffalo Raceway’s $12,300 Class AA-Open Handicapped Pace on Saturday night (June 19) as he showed the harness racing field who was in charge by beating Iluvtomakemoney by a neck in 1:55 over the sloppy track.

Settling into sixth after the starting gate swung open, Saulsbrook Deputy watched as Endeavors Pride (Jim Morrill Jr.) set the opening tempo.

Approaching the half mile marker, Saulsbrook Deputy began his first over grind and eventually took over at the three quarter pole. Heading for the finish line, Saulsbrook Deputy looked home free but had to withstand a late rush by Iluvtomakemoney (Ray Fisher Jr.). SM Timmy (Kyle Cummings) took the third place spot.

Owned by Mark Keller and trained by Jennifer Giuliani, it was the fourth victory in 22 outings for the 7-year-old Saulsbrook Deputy (Western Paradise-Racino Hall). The win increased his 2021 bankroll to $34,526 and $248,611 in his life.

Mugshots Bro ($5.30) got caught in a speed duel with J-S Swanman early but still had plenty left in the stretch to post a 1-1/4 length decision over Keystone Apache in the co-featured $11,200 Class A-Open Handicapped Trot.

Racing as a tandem to the opening quarter, J-S Swanman eventually took command as Mugshots Bro (Shawn McDonough) gave up and took back into the pocket.

With fractions of :28.2, :58.3 and 1:28.4, Keystone Apache (Kevin Cummings) was the major danger turning for home. But Mugshots Bro found a second wind and was able to dip into the passing lane and clip Keystone Apache in 1:58.3. Sanchez Rocks (Drew Monti) rallied late for third.

Co-owned by Herman Niedhammer and Herman Niedhammer Jr., it was the third victory in seven outings for the McDonough-trained Mugshots Bro (Jailhouse Jesse-Photo Emmy). The score moved his seasonal earnings to $21,340 and $239,357 in his career.

In the $10,500 Class A pace, Noahs Mills ($4.60) used a big brush down the backstretch and it keyed him in registering a 3-3/4 length victory over Thor De Vie in 1:56.1.

Watching the pace setting R J P (Denny Bucceri) put up splits of 29.1 and :59.1 through the opening half mile, Noahs Mill (Drew Monti) saw enough and blasted to the lead before the three-quarter pole. It was all smooth sailing from there as Noahs Mill cruised home in :27.3, nailing down the comfortable win over Thor De Vie (Kevin Cummings). Stranger Things (Morrill Jr.) took the show position.

Owned by Terence Miller and trained by Jennifer Giuliani, it was the second win in 14 attempts this season for the 6-year-old Noahs Mill (Camluck-Tarport Baccarat). The victory upped his season earnings to $17,772 and $122,273 lifetime.

Monti and Kevin Cummings each had three victories with Ray Fisher Jr. getting a double. Giuliani had a pair of conditioning wins.

Racing is scheduled to resume on Wednesday at 5 p.m. with an 11-race card slated.
