Ocean City, MD – The second round of preliminaries for the two year old Maryland Sire Stakes began with two splits for harness racing pacing fillies and one for trotting colts and geldings at Ocean Downs Friday.
The first division for the pacing fillies went to post in the opener. Reinsman Russel Foster set Wowie Zowie (Cam's Rocket) in third, coming first over up the backside, grinding his way to catch the leader Madisonsallin (Rusty's All In) in the stretch, stopping the clock in 1:58.1. Megan Foster trains the winner for her husband Russell, Michael Hans is the breeder.
The lone division for the trotting colts and geldings was the second half of the daily double. Funnyfunnyriddle (Lockkeeper) picked up his third straight wire to wire win, crossing three lengths ahead of a late closing Trent's A Lock (Lockkeeper). Les Givens drives and trains the winner for Nanticoke Racing LLC, J.P. Magno and J.P. Fonte, Magno is also the breeder. Time for the mile was 2:04.4.
Sjs Special Kay (Russell Hanover) fired out of post four to control all the fractions in the second split for the pacing fillies finishing two lengths ahead in 1:59.2. Kelsys For Real (Rusty's For Real) closed in for place. This win gave trainer Les Givens and owners Nanticoke Racing LLC, J.P. Magno and J.P. Fonte their second stakes win for the night. Magno & Fonte are the breeders.
