Lying in Cash (Aracache Hanover– Jokerslitlwhitelie) and harness racing driver Jason Merriman returned to the Northville Downs winner’s circle after capturing the Saturday night (April 22) $10,800 featured Open Handicap Pace at Northville Downs for the second straight week.
A four-way tussle ensued off the start with Magic Shark (Kody Massey), Liberal (Justin Irvine), National Sport (David Lake) and Lying In Cash all leaving to vie for the lead.
Liberal took over to the backstretch before Lying In Cash stormed up on the outside to grab command at the quarter pole. Tripping the beam in :26.4, the leader swelled up as they went to the half in :56.1, facing a challenge from a first-up Magic Shark to the backstretch.
As they went to the three-quarters, Lying In Cash accelerated passed the timer in 1:24.3. When they turned for home, Jetās Sureshot came to call to make a race of it in the stretch, but it wasnāt enough as Lying In Cash held on to win by a quarter-length margin in 1:54. Jetās Sureshot settled for second and Catch Me Conrad got up for third.
LYING IN CASH REPLAY
It was the 30th career victory for the seven-year-old gelding who is bred, owned and trained by Techia Lohmann. The win pushed the career earnings for Lying In Cash to $201,386.
