Series finals underway at Scioto Downs

Eldorado Scioto Downs played host to an August series for Ohio sired two-year-olds that were non-winners of one pari-mutuel or $7,500 life as of July 23. The first two of four series finals were held Tuesday (August 24) with both trot divisions going in 1:57.2.

The first, for 2-year-old trotting fillies going for $16,300, was won by Miss Cowboy Star for trainer Edward Miller and driver Brett Miller. Sent off as the 1/5 favorite, the filly went straight to the lead from the four hole and led the entire way through fractions of :29.2, :59 and 1:27.4.

Bred by Doug Millard and Spring Haven Farm, Miss Cowboy Star is now owned by Rebecca Sugg, Steven Maas and Duke Sugg. Purchased for $15,000 out of the Ohio Select Yearling Sale, the Long Tom filly now has $30,574 in lifetime earnings. Sisteralice (Jeremy Smith) was second while Go To Gal (Tyler Smith) finished third. The winner paid $2.40 to win.

MISS COWBOY STAR REPLAY

The 2-year-old colt trot series final was won by Aviation (Jeremy Smith). Trained by Pamela Young, the colt by Break The Bank K also lead the entire mile through fractions of :28.4, :59.1 and 1:28.1.

Sent off as the even money favorite, Aviation won by just a half length over Frosty Trouble (Tyler Smith). Stay Tuned (Josh Sutton) was third.

Aviation was bred by Robert Key and is owned by Big Dog Racing. After winning the lion’s share of the $17,700 purse, Aviation now has $24,100 in lifetime earnings.

AVIATION REPLAY

The 2-year-old series continues with the $18,900 filly pace final on Wednesday (August 25). The Thursday (August 26) card has two divisions of the second leg of the colt pace. The final for that series will be on Thursday, September 2.
