Silk Cloud A (Shadow Play), the longest shot on the tote board at 20-1 odds, held off harness racing favorite Lit De Rose to easily win the $35,000 Fillies & Mares Invitational Pace Friday (May 3) at Yonkers Raceway.
The 2nd race feature saw Mc Angel (Brent Holland) scoot right out to the early lead from the rail with Coachellbound N (Jason Bartlett) getting the two-hole trip to the first quarter in :27.2.
There was no movement in the short field as Mc Angel continued to lead the way past the half mile marker in :56. Then in the backstretch, Dougs Babe A (Austin Siegelman) tried coming up first-over with Silk Cloud A and driver Jordan Stratton getting into the fray second-over, but Mc Angel was the strong horse, leading by two lengths at the three-quarters in 1:23.2.
Around the final turn with Mc Angel in control and fanning three-wide was Silk Cloud A and following her was the favorite Lit De Rose (Pat Lachance).
By just lifting the lines in the stretch Stratton hand drove Silk Cloud A and she pulled away from the field to win by two and one-half lengths in 1:52.1. Lit De Rose, fresh off her victory in the Blue Chip Matchmaker Final, was second with Mc Angel watching her three-race win streak come to an end in third place.
SILK CLOUD A REPLAY
