LEBANON, OH. – Saulsbrook Genesis (Sunshine Beach) got off to a slow start to his harness racing career, but is making up for lost time now!
The 5-year-old made just eight starts earning under $10,000 as a two and three year old, but has blossomed since winning 10 times in 32 starts and increasing his career earnings to $142,068.
On Sunday (Feb. 19) Saulsbrook Genesis’s latest accomplishment was winning the $30,000 Open Handicap Pace at Miami Valley for driver Chris Page, upsetting Let It Ride (Dan Noble) and Mac’s Big Boy (Trace Tetrick) in 1:51.2. Page went directly to the pylons during the :26.3 opening panel and was content to stay pinned in until past the half in :55.1.
Approaching the three quarter station Page moved into second over position as the timer flashed 1:22.3. With a :28.2 final panel Saulsbrook Genesis was able to collar the leaders and gain a neck advantage in deep stretch. Let It Ride N was assigned the outside post and saved ground along the inside after ducking off the gate, ultimately finding a seam in deep stretch to finish second. Mac’s Big Boy and Big Gulp (San Widger) were also lapped on to the winner at the finish line.
SAULSBROOK GENESIS REPLAY
The winner paid $14.20. Despite the fact the first two finishers were first and second in last week’s Open (in the opposite order) the exacta returned an appealing $76.60.

A $25,000 Open II was captured by Yourwishisgranted in 1:50.1, held four races earlier on the card with the sun still out. The 4-year-old son of JK Endofanera (Tetrick) beat Big Fritz (Brett Miller) and Alwaystellthetruth (Widger). Ruby Huggins owns the Matt Rheinheimer trainee whose earnings have now reached $184,160.
